The CPR certificate will be issued by Yongsan Health Center(용산구보건소) to those who fully joined the training. The certificate is written in Korean, but the English translated description will be provided. Please make sure to enter the information correctly when registering.

Itaewon Global Village Center will be hosting its second “Living in Seoul Talk Series” on November 9, 2024 (Saturday) from 10:00am to 5:30pm at Basement 3 of Art Hall, Yongsan-gu Office.

This series will be divided into three sessions:
(*Participants may choose which session(s) they want to attend)
Part 1: Living in Seoul Orientation (10:00am to 12:00pm)
Speaker: Katherine Corteza, Center Director of Itaewon Global Village Center
- A talk on basic information on living in Seoul, crime prevention, banking, medical care, Korean culture and so on
Part 2: Visa Talk (1:00pm to 3:00pm)
Speaker: Mr. Jang Manik, Licensed Immigration Agent
- A seminar on how to change your E-1/E-2/E-7 visa to F-2 & F-5 Visas
Part 3: Standard Korean Labor Law (3:30pm to 5:30pm)
Speaker: Atty. Jiwon Lee, Attorney-at-Law
- A talk on basic labor laws

At Itaewon GVC, we believe that information should be accessible to everyone, including foreigners residing in another country. However, due to language barrier, accessing right information might be daunting for most of the foreign residents in Korea especially those who are new to the country. As an aspect of Itaewon GVC’s commitment to support foreigners living in Seoul, and as an agency heading the international community, we uphold the undertaking of promoting the importance of knowing one’s rights. This is also an opportunity to help foreigners living in Seoul to have access to the valuable information that will help them adapt and make their lives easier while living in Korea.

Hanji is a paper made from all natural ingredients and it has been used in Korea for centuries. In the past, it was used in daily life, making books, windows and doors. The paper is so durable that layered Hanji was even used as an armor that could stop arrows. These days Hanji is used for mostly decorative purposes such as making dolls, wrapping paper, decorative boxes, and other handicrafts. For this class, we are going to make Hanji Lamp in a flower shape form.

Itaewon Global Village Center and Foreigner & Immigrant Virtual Community Center in Korea are looking for volunteers to help out with the preparations during "Community Closet (무료 나눔 장터): Sustainability Market Day." We need people to help sort out and organize the donated items and those who can help out during the open market day.

There are three volunteering opportunities you can choose from:
1. Nov. 15th (Fri) from 3:00pm to 5:00pm : sorting, organizing donated items
2. Nov. 16th (Sat) from 10:00am to 11:30am: organizing the donated items, and preparing the items for open market
3. Nov. 16th (Sat) from 12:30pm to 5:00pm: helping out during the open market event

Itaewon Global Village Center will hold the "[Itaewon GVC] EM Shampoo Bar Making Class.”

▶Contents: EM is short for Effective Microorganism. It is a collection of about 80 kinds of microorganisms beneficial to the human body, such as lactobacillus, yeast, and nuruk. Participants will be learning about EM and making a 200g of eco & body friendly Shampoo bar.

You will be making a EM shampoo bar through this class where you can wash in an eco-friendly way.

20241119_따스한채움터 Homeless People Support Center Volunteering

Itaewon Global Village Center is looking for volunteers to help out at 따스한채움터 Homeless People Support Center. The volunteer days will be on November 19th (Tues) from 10:30am to 1:00pm.

Dasseuhan 따스한채움터 offers a temporary home to homeless people struggling through various life difficulties. As volunteers, we will help the center by distributing food and washing the dishes. Currently, the center lacks the manpower to help maintain their small kitchen that provides free lunch to homeless people in Seoul. So your time and efforts will be a great help to them!

The activity will be done in Dasseuhan which is near Seoul Station. Complete details will be emailed to you once you have completed your registration. This volunteer activity is open to foreign residents aged 18 years old and above.

Itaewon Global Village Center will hold the “Kimchi Making Experience.”

▶Contents: Learning about Kimjang, a day for making Kimchi in preparation for the winter months, tradition in Korea. Then, each participant will have the opportunity to make their kimchi which they can bring home.

20241121_Bossam & Kimchi Cooking Class

Itaewon Global Village Center, together with Korean Food Promotion Institute, is hosting a Korean cooking class on November 21st (Thurs) from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Hansik Space Eum (near Anguk Station). Since it is "kimchi season," we will be learning how to make the most common dish Koreans make during "kimjang" (kimchi-making day): "Bossam" and Kimchi.

Bossam is a pork dish, usually pork shoulder, that is boiled in spices and sliced thinly. This dish is usually eaten during kimchi-making day, and is accompanied by freshly made kimchi. So aside from learning how to cook bossam, we will also be making kimchi.

FOOD ALLERGY WARNING: (*Please take note of these ingredients before signing up for the class. Hansik Space Eum WILL NOT make any changes to the recipe.) The ingredients that will be used for this class is as follows: pork, water, cooking wine, dwenjang (soybean paste), green onion, garlic, napa cabbage, salt, radish, Korean green onions, pear, shrimp paste, gochukaru (Korean chili pepper powder), anchovy fish sauce, ginger, sugar, glutinous rice powder

Itaewon Global Village Center will hold the “Yin-Yang Meditation.”

▶Contents: This class is a combination of still meditation (yin) and active meditation (yang). Yin meditation incorporates basic poses from yin yoga. Active meditation combines simple movements and mindfulness. Both types of meditation will help you to connect with your body and mind. Meditation is diverse and can be practiced in countless ways. This class is an opportunity to explore the type of meditation that suits you. This is a beginner-friendly class. No meditation experience is necessary.

20241127_YOHIM Factory

Itaewon Global Village Center, together with Yongsan History Museum, will be hosting "YOHIM Factory: Yongsan History Museum Tour and Mini "Stained-Glass" Arched Door Making Class on November 27, 2024 (Wed) from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Yongsan History Museum.

We will be touring around Yongsan History Museum to learn the history of the Railroad Hospital and then we will also be learning about Yongsan's History and Culture. After the tour, all participants will have the chance to make their own stained glass art (as shown in the picture on the poster).

Since this class is sponsored by Yongsan History Museum, this class is FREE OF CHARGE. Only 16 participants can join this class so GROUP REGISTRATION is NOT ALLOWED. If your friend/family wants to join, they will have to register separately. Also, this class is only open for FOREIGN ADULTS (18 years and above). Lastly, those who have joined the previous YOHIM Factory program are NOT ALLOWED to join again.

Itaewon Global Village Center will help at the Seodaemun Seniors’ English Club on November 28, 2024 (Thurs) from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm. We are looking for volunteers who can join us that day.

Seniors attending Seodaemun Senior Welfare Center and are members of the Seodaemun Seniors’ English Club have requested Itaewon GVC to gather volunteers who can help them improve their English speaking skills and boost their confidence when speaking the English language. Hence, they are looking for 12-15 English-speaking volunteers.

By volunteering, you can help them practice their English speaking skills. You don’t need to be a native English speaker to join. (BUT OF COURSE, THE ABILITY TO CONVERSE IN ENGLISH FLUENTLY IS REQUIRED.) Don’t worry if you cannot speak Korean. However, this activity is only open for foreign volunteers aged 18 years old and above.

Itaewon Global Village Center will hold a “Yuja Makgeolli (Sweet Rice Wine) Making Class” which will be led by the Institute of Korean Makgeolli Association.

One of the well known Korean traditional wine is made of rice. Since rice is a staple in Korea, it is only very apt for them to make wine out of it. Through this class, you will be learning culture and history of makgeolli and how to make Yuja makgeolli.

As part of the experience, you will have time to make one bottle of Yuja makgeolli. Participants will be bringing home unfermented makgeolli which means you will have to do the fermentation at home. Fermentation will take about 2 weeks. Hence, this class is NOT suitable for participants who will be travelling. Tourists who are planning to bring the unfermented makgeolli home is also not recommended to join the class as you won’t be able to bring the unfermented makgeolli in the airplane.
