YSWC English Conversations with Seniors Volunteering

20241204_YSWC English Conversations with Seniors Volunteering

Itaewon Global Village Center will help out at the Yongsan Senior Welfare Center on December 4, 2024 (Wed) from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. We are looking for volunteers who can join us that day.

One of the programs of Yongsan Senior Welfare Center is an English class to help retired seniors practice their English language ability. Most of the seniors who are part of the class were professionals during their younger days, and most of them have a good command of the English language. However, as time passes and due to the lack of people they can converse with, most of them have forgotten how to use the language. Through this class, they aim to regain the confidence they used to have. By volunteering, you will be able to help them practice their English speaking skills. You don’t need to be a native English speaker to join. (BUT OF COURSE, THE ABILITY TO CONVERSE IN ENGLISH FLUENTLY IS REQUIRED.) Don’t worry if you cannot speak Korean. However, only foreign adults aged 18 years old and above can join this activity.

If you want to be one of the volunteers, please fill out the form: https://forms.gle/7WCScWAuoCSmzt1R8 (or scan the qr code on the poster)

⇒ Volunteer Certificates can be issued if needed. If you have a 1365 ID, please include that when you register.
⇒ Please be advised that Itaewon GVC does NOT provide any kind of visa sponsorship, an official invitation for immigration purposes, accommodation, or compensation for these volunteer activities.

Yongsan Senior Welfare Center is located in Hannam-dong, and they cater to Korean elderly where the elderly can congregate, participate in various activities, and unwind. They require assistance with food distribution, kitchen cleanup, and helping elderly people with mobility issues. Your assistance is needed because they lack the manpower to help out at the cafeteria.

Bojagi Workshop II

20241213_Bojagi Workshop II

On December 13th (Fri) from 2:00PM to 3:30PM, Itaewon Global Village Center will be hosting a Bojagi Art Workshop.

“Bojagi” actually refers to the fabrics that are used for wrapping. However, as time goes by the term “bojagi” has become synonymous to the traditional art of wrapping. In the old times, Koreans believed that keeping something wrapped protects the item from misfortune, and giving someone a wrapped present gives that person good luck or happiness.

Bojagi art is not only pretty but it is also a sustainable way of gift wrapping as we can reuse old fabrics again and again.

For this workshop, we will be learning how to do three basic bojagi knots: Dosirak, Jangmi, and Gungjung. Plus we will recreate those knots using a tiny box to make a garland. (Please see the poster for the pictures. NOTE: The fabric/materials (including colors) that will be used in the class may be different from the actual materials that will be used in the class)

The participation fee for this class is 20,000 won/ participant. Advance payment is required. I will email you all the details (including payment details) once you have completed the registration.

Language of Instruction: ENGLISH only
